"Because Every Shot Counts"
May 2007
Vol 2 Issue 2

The 110th annual Boston Marathon took place on April 16th, airing live locally on WBZ-TV (CBS Channel 4) and nationally on the Versus Network, with Total RF providing production services for the event. A high volume of RF Extreme&trade equipment was used on course and at 6 receive sites to transmit and receive the race. Four Camera Mount Transmitters (RFX-CMT) were used on motorcycle cams, and two 6-Way Diversity Receivers (RFX-RMR-X6) were used at each of the receive sites along the course. Also in use was the RFX-PRX, a portable handheld receiver with monitor, and the Portable High-Power Transmitter (RFX-PHT). The combination of RF Central's top-notch equipment, and Total RF's first-rate production services delivered another successful broadcast of this world class running event.

Harrisburg's local ABC affiliate, WHTM-TV 27 aired their Midstate Home Makeover Reveal live on May 4th. This is the second time the station has produced the local makeover event, based on and similar to ABC's Extreme Makeover Home Edition. RF Central was there to aid in production, and the RF Extreme&trade Camera Mount Transmitter (RFX-CMT) allowed live wireless footage to be shot as the Dunn family toured the interior of their newly remodeled home. A live broadcast in the confines of a house would prove extremely difficult without the wireless transmitter, which allowed for free movement while shooting inside without tripping over wires. RF Central looks forward to continued work with WHTM abc27 with this generous event again next year.

The 5th annual Tour de Georgia took place from April 16th through April 22nd 2007, expanding from a six-day event to seven days this year. Total RF provided production services for the event and, of course, RF Extreme&trade equipment was on the courses as well. Two motorcycles followed the racing action with RF Central's Camera Mounted Transmitter (RFX-CMT), with two Dual-Diversity Rack Mount Receivers (RFX-RMRTD) receiving the transmission. The Tour aired on the Versus Network as part of their Cyclysm Sundays which airs all of the major international cycling events. Production and broadcast efforts led by Total RF with equipment from RF Central created another flawless Tour de Georgia broadcast, and we were proud to be the production and equipment suppliers of choice for the event again this year.

RF Central's equipment isn't just for the frontline broadcast, it works hard to help producers and directors behind the scenes as well. The most recent example comes from NBC's The Today Show. From April 30th to May 4th, the show aired it's weeklong 'Where In The World Is Matt Lauer' series, with Matt visiting various arts of the world. On May 3rd his travels took him to Dubai where a large part of the broadcast was filmed from the helipad atop the Burj Al-Arab hotel. RF Central's Portable High-Power Transmitter (RFX-PHT) was as a communications link between a helicopter filming aerial shots and the show's director in New York. RF Extreme&trade gear is just as valuable behind the scenes as it is at the forefront of a broadcast, and we are happy that NBC chose our equipment to help with a challenging broadcast.

Product in the Spotlight

The most common word used by clients to describe the performance of the RFX-RMR-X6 6-Way Diversity Receiver after a demonstration is 'Amazing.' Offering up to 6 antenna inputs and utilizing Maximum Ratio Combining, the RFX-RMR-X6 surpasses single input receiver capabilities to create a single robust signal by reconstructing the COFDM signal from the inputs of all the antennas. This receiver is well suited for urban central receive sites where widespread coverage is required with no steerable antenna. The RMR-X6 has already proven itself in major cities such as Boston, Memphis, San Francisco , and Harrisburg. Contact us for a demonstration and you can see for yourself how amazing this product is.
