RF Central builds on a legacy of innovation, reliability and service. Our HistoryRF Central began as a broadcast engineering services company after acquiring the communications equipment division of Winemiller Communications, Inc. including remote control traffic/weather cameras, fixed and portable microwave links and engineering services.
RF Central is world renowned for its technical expertise in microwave communications. President and CEO Jeff Winemiller has been awarded contracts to provide broadcast equipment, technical consulting and field engineering for world-class sports events, such as the Tour Du Pont, the Goodwill Games and the Summer and Winter Olympic Games in Seoul, Barcelona, Lillehammer, Atlanta, Sydney, Salt Lake City and Athens. Teams have numbered as high as 45 people at the Olympics. Our equipment has been used in airplanes, helicopters, motorcycles, boats and snowmobiles to bring Olympic coverage to millions of people in over one hundred countries. Jeff Winemiller has been involved in providing RF solutions at the Olympic Games since the Seoul Olympic Games in 1988, several years prior to the inception of RF Central, LLC. Jeff Winemiller continues to provide the equipment and expertise to support RF operations during each Olympic Games event, as well as at live events throughout the world. RF Central’s use of COFDM (Coded Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing) digital wireless technology at the Sydney Olympic Games was an industry historic first. Previous generations of radio cameras were designed to either avoid reflected signals with directional antennas or minimize their effect by video processing. With the introduction of COFDM multi-carrier modulation, the reflected signals actually provide a useful benefit. With parallel data transmission, if a number of carriers are distorted or even destroyed by a frequency selective fade, they can be reconstructed in the demodulator by correlation with the correctly recovered carriers. This means that even if no direct line-of-sight transmission is possible the COFDM transmitter is capable of providing perfect pictures by rebuilding reflected signal. Operation inside buildings and around corners can now be accomplished with ease. RF Central offers this compelling technology for your use through our complete line of RF Extreme™ (RFX™) products. Most recently, RFX™ products were used at the 2006 Winter Olympic Games in Turino, Italy, and the Tour of California bicycle race. RF Central’s RFX™ HDTV Camera-Mount Transmitter was used in support of the 2006 Academy Awards. RF Central enjoys a large network of loyal contacts and clients within the broadcast industry.
